The Taste of York City is held at the
Valencia Ballroom, a gorgeous
historical space, where at one time
Guy Lombardo lead the band in a
grand era of big music and galas. The
Event is a 5 course dinner with all the
food donated by Downtown
restaurants.
There is a silent auction with items
donated by artists, area shops, and
local businesses. There is Art, Gift
Certificates, and even tickets to
events. Every year, Michele and I
donate 2 boxes of art from the shop
worth $75 each.
After dinner, there is a live auction with
Sean Kenny and Kevin Schreiber as
MC's. The items, again, are donated
by local businesses. This year
featured travel packages, lunch with
York's Mayor, John Brenner, meals
with other local politicians, an Art
Birthday Party, a Magician's Act, and
meals cooked for you and your guests
by local chefs! We also donate a
Birthday Party valued at $250 each
year for the live auction.
All money raised at The Taste of York
City benefits City Events, such as The
Olde York Street Fair, and Yorkfest.
We are proud to support this great
effort- and very excited to showcase
our fabulous table hosting talents!
Michele and Andrea have hosted
tables for the last 4 years. This year
our theme for all 3 tables we hosted
was Marie Antoinette. Michele created
the cake on the table above. It's not
edible- unless you have metal teeth!
It's a mosaic. Our tables were filled
with pastries, candies, cotton candy in
jars, cheeses from France, crackers,
and baguettes in addition to a myraid
of candle sticks and other French and
Marie Antoinete themed items.
Table 1
Table 2
Our second table Featured a tulle
wrapped chandelier as a center piece.
Each table had it's own floral
arrangement designed by Gina of
Look at the Flowers. She also provided
the rose petals that were sprinkled on
each plate . You can also see in the
photo below that we made crowns for
everyone at our 3 tables to wear.
Table 1
Below is our third table. It featured a dressmaker's mannequinn in a
frilly tutu. You may not be able to see the extra wide ribbon tied to the
back of each seat, it has pink and blue glitter stars on it and it sets off
the look quite nicely. The table cloth on this table is very gold, it was
hard to tell in the photos with the candle light.
Table 3
This is the close-up of the flowers
from Table 2. They were designed by
Gina of Look at the Flowers. She is
currently located in York's Central Market.
Her booth is not to be
missed. The
bouquets
she makes
are amazing
and over the
top gorgeous!
You can see some of the smaller
decorations on the table- the
small figurine of Marie Antoinette
a few strings of Pearls, and jars
of frothy and delicious candies
and cotton candy fluff. Our
tables were tres pastel and had
accents of antique silver and
gold.
Every Marie Antoinette themed event should have a Marie
Antoinette... and, as always, Andrea is ready and willing to
step into a frothy, bird nested wig and cage hipped dress! As
the only costumed table host, it sure made our Marie
Antoinette themed tables a stand out- if no one noticed them
for their fabulous decadent decor'! In the background, you'll
notice the Mosaic Cake from Table 1
Maxleen and Valerie, 2 of our interns, are rearranging
some items on Table 1 just as the doors are opened
for the evening. We had 24 guests at our tables,
including Michele and myself. Our guests are never
disappointed. We bring extra food in keeping with our
themes, and extra wine and beverages. When you sit
with us, you'll get party favors and will feel that you've
had a night to remember! Keep in mind for next
year...you may want to save the date and buy your
tickets from us, so that you might sit at one of our
tables!
All in all, a good time was had by everyone attending
the Taste of York City 2009. We hope you'll join us
next year- so that we can do more than 3 tables!
In previous years our themes have been- white and
crystal- our center piece was a 4 foot tall white
painted tree covered in crystals and pearls- our place
settings were white and crystal. The next year, we did
a mermaid themed table. The center piece that year
was a sculpted mermaid side table topped with huge
shells and a bowl of coral and live fish! Last year, in
2008, Michele did a Paris themed table complete with
3 foot tall Eiffel Tower, bagguettes, and French Lace.
Andrea's table was gypsy themed (it was featured in
the literature for the 2009 event) She used a large
basket filled with a guitar, violin, dulcimer, and
bhodran (her family's instruments) and many gypsy
scarves and skirts and pieces of fabric. She also
used a crystal ball and a few pieces of gypsyish
decor' from home! Come see what our themes will be
next year!
Michele and her amazing Mosaic cake. The cupcake on
top features the likeness of Marie Antoinette and says "Let
them eat cake"!
